Nuapatna, the legendary weaving centre in Odisha’s Cuttack district, famous for silk and cotton single-ikat (weft-ikat) textiles. The weavers here produce a striking range of sarees with a brilliance, glaze and texture that is unmatched. Over generations, local artisans have perfected hand-spun techniques and the region’s unique Ikat dyeing process. Nuapatna sarees, traditionally woven on pit looms using hand-dyed yarns, were once crafted primarily for religious and ritual wear, often gracing temple ceremonies, and festive occasions. Today, this timeless textile has evolved, connecting the everyday saree lover to Odisha’s spiritual and cultural heritage. This is one of the prominent places for making Shri Jagannath’s Khandua Pata (Khanda means piece). 

Nuapatna is known for its bandha kala & is recognized for signature designs like the ‘phoda kumbha’ (temple spires) border and elegant pallus adorned with geometric patterns. The sarees here radiate subtle sophistication, uses eco-friendly dyes, has long lasting craft, with defining symbolic motifs from nature like hathi, singha, flower, garland, conch, lotus, wheel etc. The traditional craft dates back centuries and has been passed down through familial generations. The artisan’s practice has virtually remained the same during this time. The tour will give the participants an unique opportunity to meet the local weaving families, interact with them & witness their handloom making process. A few nearby heritage sites shall also be explored during the tour.

Our charges are inclusive of cab rentals, guide fees, veg breakfast, lunch, toll/entry/parking fees & tea at evening but excluding any personal expenses by participants etc. In case of any additional/revised & incidental group expenses at sites, it shall be collectively borne by the participants (excl the Aitiha team & cab rider). 

Imp Notice: Those are planning to join the day tour from outside Bhubaneswar are requested to be on time beforehand to avoid getting missed out. Those travelling overnight via local bus/train are requested to reach 01 hour before the scheduled time at pickup point. It’s always better to reach & stay overnight at Bhubaneswar before the tour starts. Remember, the tour will not stop or be delayed accommodating you, in case you are late beyond the grace time of 15 min. The return journey from the last site point shall commence keeping 2-3 hours in hand for traffic & other unavoidable circumstances. In case of detention of vehicle beyond the stipulated time, additional cab charges shall be levied. Hence, guests are required to manage the time properly so that the touch points are covered well in time.

Registration & payment open till 6 PM of 31st Dec 2025 (Wed). You have to pay online in full through our portal’s event registration page & then register yourself online. Bank details shall be shared on request. No cash payment option available.

We shall move in a standard AC vehicle on sharing basis for the tour. However, if any participant wishes, he/she can opt for ‘Bring Your Own Vehicle‘ (BYOV) option at their own cost but need to follow the pilot vehicle of Team Aitiha. Breakfast shall be arranged on the wayside stalls en-route as per available veg items. For lunch, you need to pay your part as per your food preference picked at any average hotel en-route. If are not comfortable with the breakfast or lunch provided or with medical restrictions, you can always carry your own food/fruits.

Wear comfortable clothes as per climate & act responsibly. Please carry your essentials with you which may include any medicine, umbrella/cap, camera with lens etc. Don’t forget to carry your power bank, mobile battery charged, camera ready with battery fully charged & memory card cleaned.
